I'll admit the polka dot thing caught me off guard. It's not exactly a print I'd have bet on making a comeback, but here we are — search interest is at an all-time high, and it's not the dainty little dot from a few years back either. It's big, it's loud, it's on coats and blouses, and apparently everyone wants it.
So we looked at what's actually spiking in search right now instead of just writing another "spring trends" post, and pulled together the five that showed up again and again. A couple of these are genuinely tricky to buy off a rack, for reasons that have nothing to do with your size and everything to do with how the garment is cut.
Polka dots. Big prints are unforgiving in a way small ones aren't. A dot pattern that looks perfect on a size 4 mannequin stretches differently across a bust, and shortens differently at the hem, and there's just no getting around that without adjusting the actual pattern pieces. This is one where you either get lucky with a brand's specific cut, or you get something made for your proportions to begin with.
Lace midi skirts. "Lace midi skirt" hit a 10-year search high this year, which honestly tracks — it's giving early-2000s romantic without trying too hard. The annoying part is always length and lining. Too short and it looks costume-y. Wrong lining and, well, you know exactly what happens. One of our customers, Amanda, put it better than I could: "Elegant, sophisticated, and beautifully made. This is exactly what I was looking for." That's the whole point of lace done right — it either looks intentional or it looks like an accident, there's not much in between.
Wide-leg trousers. These are basically the uniform now — high-waisted, linen or cotton blend, worn from the office to brunch without changing. They only work if the waist sits exactly where it should, though. Too loose and the whole silhouette just collapses. Too short and "wide-leg" turns into "cropped by mistake," which is a different trend entirely and not one you were going for.
Cropped and capri pants. Yes, capris are back, and search data backs it up — all-
time high interest. The crop point is everything here. Two inches either way is the difference between a flattering ankle and pants that look like they shrank in the wash. This is genuinely one of the hardest things to get right buying off a size chart, because "cropped" means something different on every single body.
Silk scarf tops. Also at a 10-year high. Scarf-print blouses, scarf necklines, even the bandana-belt thing people are doing now. It's a busy print on a garment that lives or dies by fit — a loose scarf top just reads sloppy, a fitted one reads intentional.
None of this is really about chasing trends, if I'm honest. It's more that these five happen to be exactly the kind of pieces where a slightly wrong fit ruins the whole look, and a slightly right one makes it look expensive. If you're going to bother trying one of these, you might as well get the length, the waist, and the fit built around you instead of hoping the size chart guessed right.
